Project Objectives
As a resource library for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NNLM), the Gibson D. Lewis Health Science Library serves the community by providing quality health information to the public. The HOPE directory, short for health organizations, programs and events, accomplishes this mission by offering a centralized source for reliable and authoritative local health information. The goal is to improve public health by removing barriers to access. The first year of this project will focus on the collection of data in Tarrant County, followed by surrounding counties in successive years.
What makes the HOPE Directory different than other community resources lists is how information is collected. We add a human element! As information specialists, librarians possess the expertise and time necessary to keep resources current and accessible. The process for verifying the data entered into the directory includes individual communications through emails, and phone calls for every entry added to the directory.
Open access files for the framework of the directory are available on Github to other members of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine that would like to extend this service to their designated service area. Membership to the NNLM is free. Visit the NNLM website for more information.
Please contact us if you have questions, or if you would include your organization, event, or program listed in the HOPE Directory.
Quality Guidelines
The HOPE Directory is designed to provide access to information from local health organizations. To facilitate this service, librarians from Gibson D. Lewis Health Science Library gather and verify information about local health resources and services.
Data included in the directory must meet the following criteria:
- organizations, programs, or events listed in the directory must be directly related to health or social determinates of health (i.e. education, economic stability, environment)
- programs or events must be locally offered or be remotely accessible
- information must contain quality, authoritative, and accurate health content
- for-profit organizations may list programs and events that are provided for free or at a reduced cost for the public
The HOPE Directory pledges to increase accessibility and protect user information. For more information, please see our website privacy and accessibility statements.
